Syllabus

Note:  This course is being significantly revised for 2011.  It is designed to follow GMS 6121, Infectious Diseases, which was taught in the previous spring.  In that course two weeks of basic bacteriology (structure, physiology, genetics) were taught and will only be briefly reviewed in GMS 6038.  If you have not had basic bacteriology before, you should check out this PowerPoint/PDF to make sure that you will be ready for the course.  Here is a prinatable black and white version of the PowerPoint/PDF that won't eat ink and toner.  Here is a file that has questions to let you know if you are adequately prepared from your past education and experience.

Text: Molecular Genetics of Bacteria, Third Edition, Snyder and Champness, ASM Press (now available in the Health Science Center Bookstore).  THIS IS A REQUIRED TEXT.

Online Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium (updated link - connection via UF network required, the print version table of contents leads to better links)

Send me an introductory email telling me your program, your research goals, how much bacteriology you've had, and anything that you'd like to learn in this course.
